The promise

The Promise (2014), written by Nicola Davies and illustrated by Laura Carlin, follows a young city girl who lives in a gray, crowded urban environment. One day, she encounters a woman who gives her a small seed and asks her to keep a promise connected to it. The girl takes the seed and begins to carry it with her through the streets, unsure of what to do with it. As she moves through the city, she plants the seed in an unexpected place, and over time it begins to grow. As the plant flourishes, people in the city take notice and begin to interact with it, causing gradual changes in their surroundings. The narrative follows the growth of the plant and how it affects the girl’s world.
