The little green hen
The Little Green Hen (2018), written and illustrated by Alison Murray, follows a hardworking hen who lives inside an old apple tree and spends her days caring for her home. She tidies, prunes, and nurtures the environment around her, always looking for help with her tasks. Various animals pass by, each responding differently to her invitations. As the seasons shift, the hen continues maintaining the tree and the space around it, preparing for whatever changes nature might bring. When a major weather event approaches, the animals’ choices influence how they face the situation, and the story brings them together inside and around the tree. The book highlights the characters’ interactions as they work through the challenges presented by their shared environment.
