The water princess

The Water Princess (2016), written by Susan Verde and illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds, follows a young girl named Gie Gie who dreams of bringing clean water to her African village. Each morning, she wakes before sunrise to journey with her mother across dry land to fetch water from a distant well. Along the way, she imagines herself as a princess who can command the water to flow freely and make life easier for her people. The story traces her daily routine, the long walk, and the hope she carries for a future where water is close and abundant. Through Gie Gie’s perspective, the book portrays both the hardship of water scarcity and the enduring spirit of hope that drives her dreams.
