Piantala! (2024) is a silent picturebook by Alessia Roselli that begins with a woodcutter methodically cutting down trees in a forest, one after another, disrupting its harmony. As the forest becomes more barren, the animals living there begin to resent what the man is doing. Birds drop droppings, squirrels throw pinecones, bees sting, and finally the wolf’s threats drive the woodcutter into hiding. He retreats up onto one of the few remaining trees. There, forced into close contact with the very tree he once felled, he experiences a moment that alters his perspective. The story follows his journey - from destruction to refuge - through images alone, showing how his relationship with nature changes as the forest reacts around him.
