Because of an Acorn

Because of an Acorn (2016), written by Lola M. Schaefer and Adam Schaefer, illustrated by Frann Preston‑Gannon, begins with a single acorn falling to the ground. From there, the narrative follows how that acorn becomes a tree, how the tree provides a home for birds, how seeds scatter, flowers bloom, and many plants and animals become connected in the forest. As the story unfolds, readers see how the growth of that one acorn sets off a chain of life, showing plants, insects, birds, and other forest dwellers interacting across time. Each page carries the journey from the tiny acorn through the larger ecosystem, mapping how one small beginning leads to a wide-reaching natural web of life.
