The Island

The Island (2002), written and illustrated by Armin Greder, follows a stranger who arrives on an island after being carried to shore on a small raft. The islanders immediately distrust him because he looks different from them. Although a fisherman argues that they should help him, the community decides to isolate the man in a goat pen. When he later asks for food, the islanders become increasingly frightened and suspicious of him. Their fear grows into hostility, as they imagine him as dangerous despite having no evidence that he intends to harm them. Eventually, the inhabitants force the stranger back onto his raft and send him out to sea. They then build a high wall around the island to prevent other outsiders from arriving, completely separating themselves from the outside world.
